Morocco: Paragliding exotica this Autumn 2012...

It's no coincidence that Morocco is by far the most popular foreign paragliding holiday destination for French paragliding pilots!  They also realise that Spring and Autumn are the best times to go!

"Morocco offers paragliders an enormous variety of possibilities"
(Parapente magazine)

"Morocco offers some rare gems of free flight. Travel is a pleasure for the senses"
Jerome Maupoint in Aérial magazine and Cross Country magazine

"The best time to fly is autumn and spring"
(Parapente magazine)

...So if its autumn or spring flying you're after.... for something  warm, sunny and exotic come and discover Morocco!

Here's a bit more about some of the sites and the flying conditions....

High Atlas

Average autumn and spring temperatures are around 25°C on the plains of  Marrakech. The reliable north-easterly breezes feed the warm air directly up onto our favourite flying sites (Aguergour and Ait Ourir) on the edge of the High Atlas mountains.  Aguergour take-off rises some 500m above the plains.  As the sun warms the plains below, a constant flow of smooth thermodynamic lift sets up, allowing us to soar high above the Berber villages, an abandoned fort, hundreds of children, mosques and wandering flocks of sheep and goats.  All the ingredients for a perfect afternoon flying!  Cross country flying is also possible on the plain in front of take-off.   Ait Ourir takes a slightly more westerly wind direction with a ridge offering many miles of soaring.

Further into the High Atlas, spectacular flying opportunities abound.  For example, towards the end of the week our safari meanders south through some unforgettable scenery to the infamous Tiz'n'Test pass.  Conditions here can be strong in the early afternoon, but for evening flying the 2000m take-off (1,500m height difference between take-off and landing!) presents us with stunning vistas of the sweeping Sous valley far below.

Deep South

Along coastal Morocco, the meteo winds are reliably north-westerly and nicely augment sea breezes which establish themselves from mid-morning.  For much of the time, we will be staying less than ten paces from launch!  The pace is very very relaxed.  Roll out of bed into your harness and soar the hours away!  Top land when you get hungry!

Although the Canary Islands (some 200km off-shore from Morocco) tend to suffer from winds more suited to hang-gliding, winds on the Moroccan coast-line are considerably milder and usually perfect for flying.  Soar the giant vistas of uninhabited cliff some 300m above the African Atlantic waves. Further along the coast: 30kms of flyable sand dunes!!  These offer excellent flying if the cliff-top flying is too strong  (very rare!).  Soaring in the setting sun is a regular evening activity, and if we're lucky maybe we'll even score a bit of moonlight flying!!

Only an hour and half from the coast and we're already in the Anti-Atlas mountains.  Day-time temperatures average about 26°C at this time of year.  The famous site of Col de Kerdous offers some fantastic thermalling opportunities.  This site faces west towards the ocean and normally works well throughout the afternoon.  Another hour further inland through the Valley of Almonds, various different sites allow us to explore the heart of the Anti-Atlas from the air.

Maximum flying

Weather patterns in Morocco are very regular and predictable, but even out here we receive daily weather reports so we can maximize your flying opportunities.  We also have the freedom and flexibility to travel (4x4 style) to other flying sites in order to find you the best flying conditions.

And there's more...

Our safaris are not just about flying.  They are also about exploring the best of Moroccan culture with similarly minded pilots.  We believe Morocco has plenty to keep your senses buzzing.  Visit funky, cool Médinas, bustling Souks, or remote desert Kasbahs.  Take a relaxing soak in an Hamman (steam bath Moroccan style), or simply soak up the African atmosphere whilst supping a mint tea with the locals.  Paragliding exotica!  (Non-pilots also very welcome!)
